It is a small dabbling duck breeding in Europe and western Asia; wintering in India, Africa, and Australasia, large flocks also winters in Thailand and Bueng Boraphet in Nakhorn Sawan, is also a perfect winter habitat.

Bueng Boraphet is a marshy lake and it is vast. One needs a motorize pontoon or long boats to navigate through heavy vegetation like tall water grass, waterlilies, small islands, shallow waters and all. It is not easy, it is also expensive to be hiring one. It is 500 baht per hour and you can’t just have the birds you want in one hour; in our case, it took us five hours to navigate around and back just to find the species we wanted to find.
