The Chinese francolin or Francolinus pintadeanus is also called the Burmeese Francolin is a game bird from the family Phasianidae. To have this bird was quite an adventure and I thought it was going to be very hard to find this. I learned that you just have to stay in the car and wait for this bird to call, don’t do anything, be at the location and just wait for it to call at a certain time.
Arpha and two friends came a long and we stopped exactly where it can be found, the distinct call rang and it was the Chinese Francolin, I was so excited, we opened our doors to go out and set our tripods. Big MISTAKE. The bird was on a big branch of a tree and then it was well exposed, so I thought that the bird can be easy and friendly. WRONG! As soon as the bird saw us, though it was far enough and we know that the distance was comfortable with some vegetation in between us the bird just jumped off and left. I was so disappointed so we decided to stay inside the car.
I drove way far in the sanctuary and went back after thirty minutes and stayed inside the car. The bird again called and we know that it was just there. it took me time to find it because it decided to show right behind a dead branch exposing the body and the head divided by the branch. I really wanted it to show all of its body but it decided not to, so better luck next time. This is a LIFER for me and Arpha.
