The Large Niltava or Niltava grandis is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. On Doi Lang, Chiang Mai, is a fantastic natural habitat as it is a tropical montane forest.

We have been wanting this bird for a long time and its not that it is endangered that it is very difficult to find, it is the distance that made it really challenging and when you get there, time is another factor. One should need to be content and schedule everything so all the target birds can be had.

Another factor is, when the Large Niltava appears, some other birds would make it retreat to the dark and it is very difficult to do the right exposure. Sometimes, the male only shows up or the female only. Birding is really challenging and patience is always a virtue.
