The Violet Cuckoo or Chrysococcyx xanthorhynchus is found from north-eastern India to Southeast Asia, Greater Sundas, Palawan and the Philippines. Considered to be rare but listed as Least Concern by the IUCN; in Thailand, sometimes it shows up at a city park feasting on hairy  caterpillars feeding on leaves. When this happens, people flock like crazy, taking the best shots possible.

The juvenile Violet Cuckoo entertained us by hopping from one branch to another, displaying its beautiful iridescent feathers. That was a fantastic experience in which we also met new friends and discussed new bird locations and twitching destinations.
