Rusty-naped Pitta: this photograph may not be used without permission.
The Rusty-naped Pitta or Hydrornis oatesi is a bird in the family Pittidae in which its habitat is high elevation mountain forests and there are so many locations in Thailand to find this bird and yet it has been a cause of disappointment to a lot who desired its photograph and just merely see it.Described by an amateur ornithologist Allan Octavian Hume in 1873 from the specimens collected from Myanmar, he gave the the binomial name as Hydronis oatesi from the the resurrected genus Hydronis.
The complexities of naming. I had been wanting this bird for quite a long time and I twitched this two years back with a very good friend Brian Hewitt together with others and I was disappointed.
I also went to Mae Fa Luang with Arpha Vida Buga-ay meeting friends over there, Nicha Puttaumnauy and her friend, and the famous Dr. Rungsrit Kanjanavanit, and we failed again; though it showed a couple of days later for some who were meant to be lucky. Prin Pattawaro a dear friend told me to go get it at Mae Wong National Park and I did. Thanks a lot for this fantastic friendly bird which gave me all the positions and fantastic shooting distance so I can capture details and colours as I wanted.
