The Pacific Reef Heron or Egretta sacra (black morph) is also known as Eastern Reef Heron and Eastern Reef Egret; found in Asia including the oceanic region of Polynesia, Southeast Asia, India, East Asia, Tasmania, Australia and New Zealand. It is an very interesting Heron since the species dis[plays a non-sexual dimorphism with others as white and others are heavy charcoal-grey. No one knows why the drastic morph but maybe for camouflage.

I have seen this bird many time and have taken photographs but they always fly away before I can get a descent shot; but in Sam Roi Yot fishing village, it was easy since they perch on ports and fishing pier posts. This is one of my favorite Herons because of its colour, it is just so opposite from all the common white Herons.
